পরিমাণ (quantity), গঠন (structure), পরিবর্তন (change) ও স্থান (space)-বিষয়ক গবেষণাকে সাধারণত  গণিত  বলা হয়। কারও কারও মতে গণিত হল " চিত্র  (figure) ও  সংখ্যার (number) গবেষণা", কিন্তু এটি গণিতের অত্যন্ত সরল একটি সংজ্ঞা। গণিতের দর্শনের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি থেকে গণিতের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন সংজ্ঞা দেয়া যায়।  বিধিগত  (formal) দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে গণিত হল   যুক্তিবিজ্ঞান  (logic) ও বিশেষ  প্রতীক-চিহ্নাদি  (notation) ব্যবহার করে  স্বতঃসিদ্ধ -রূপে সংজ্ঞায়িত  বিমূর্ত গঠনসমূহের  (axiomatically defined abstract structures) গবেষণা, অর্থাৎ গণিত হল বিভিন্ন ধরনের বিমূর্ত মানসিক খেলা আর গণিতবিদদের কাজ হল এই খেলার নিয়মগুলো এবং বিভিন্ন খেলার মধ্যে সম্পর্ক বের করা। আবার  বাস্তবতাবাদী  (realistic) দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে গণিত হল সেই সব বস্তু বা ধারণা নিয়ে গবেষণা, আমাদের যুক্তিনির্মাণ (reasoning) নির্বিশেষে যাদের স্বাধীন অস্তিত্ব আছে, অর্থাৎ গণিত বাস্তব জিনিসের গবেষণা, মানুষের মনের বিমূর্ত সৃষ্টি নয়, আর গণিতবিদদের কাজ হল মূর্ত বাস্তবতা থেকে গণিতের বিভিন্ন বিমূর্ত সূত্র উদ্ঘাটন করা। বিজ্ঞানের সমস্ত শা

Traveling Solo My family trip to Paris was wonderful (see my  previous post  for tips) but after nine days, I was going a little stir crazy and anxious to be on my own. Good thing I planned a solo trip t o Amsterdam! I was in love with Paris and did not expect to fall in love even harder for Amsterdam. It's compact and very walkable with picturesque canals forming circles around the core of the city.
